Ernestine Romero Memorial Fund
A recording artist and songwriter from Santa Fe, NM, Ernestine released numerous albums in her youthful career. She was given various awards for her ten CDs which include her CD entitled "Mi Tesoro." This CD is in celebration of her 20-Year Anniversary of recording music. Her last CD, “Gracias Señor,” is named after the duet she performed with two-time Grammy Award winner Ruben Ramos (El Gato Negro).
In January 2016, Ernestine was awarded "CD of the Year," "Cumbia Song of the Year," and "Salsa Tropical Song of the Year" at the New Mexico Hispano Music Association Music Awards.
Ernestine displayed her passion for music starting at the age of three and began her professional career at the age of eight. She released her first CD age 11 and looked to her father as a mentor all her life.
Ernestine’s career began when she was a child watching her father's band perform and she was determined to somehow get on the stage to perform as well. Ernestine loved Selena and knew the stage was where she belonged. She said her career was inevitable. Her instinctive understanding of rhythm, passion for performing and her willingness to take creative risks is what led her down a musical path of artistry.
In 2019, Ernestine's life was tragically cut short. But her family has found something of a salve for their grief in establishing the Ernestine Romero Memorial Fund, which will provide scholarships to graduating seniors in the area and donations for local organizations that work to prevent domestic and intimate partner violence.
